Broughton packs a striking range of places to drink into a compact corner of Edinburgh. Along Broughton Street and the handsome streets around it, you can move from a restored Victorian pub to a cask ale favourite, a polished gastropub, a lively tequila bar and an intimate spot for wine and sharing boards.
Getting There
Guests staying with Ben Cruachan can reach Broughton easily from both accommodation locations.
From Ben Cruachan Guest House and Ben Cruachan Rooms & Studios, 17 and 21 McDonald Road: Walk west along McDonald Road, then continue towards East London Street and Broughton Street. Most of these venues are around 10 to 20 minutes away on foot.
From Caledonian Apartments, Caledonian Crescent: Walk to Haymarket tram stop and take a Newhaven-bound tram to Picardy Place. Broughton Street begins about a 5-minute walk from the stop, with all five venues reached along or just beyond it.
Pubs & Bars

The Broughton: A smart neighbourhood gastropub pairing well-kept pints, carefully chosen wines and cocktails with seasonal food and a popular Sunday lunch.
Cask & Barrel: A traditional bar with an authentic, unpolished feel, a strong reputation for cask ale, home-cooked weekday lunches and live sport.
The Basement: A lively below-street bar for tequila, mezcal, cocktails and Mexican-inspired food, with weekend music and a late menu.
Pickles: A tucked-away wine bar built around generous sharing boards of cheese, charcuterie, pâté and accompaniments.
